My name is Megan Gunderson, and I live in the rural Southwest Alaskan village of Dillingham. This is my ninth year of teaching and my third year in Dillingham. Previously, I taught in Gambell on St. Lawrence Island in the Bering Sea off the coast of Russia and then in Atqasuk on the North Slope of Alaska roughly 300 miles above the Arctic Circle. I also taught in Oklahoma City for a few years while my husband attended welding school.
I met and married my Inupiat husband while teaching in Atqasuk. We have two children: a four year old son named Caleb and a two year old son named Henry. As a family, we like to spend time outdoors picking berries and going on walks.
Professional growth is important to me. In 2017, I graduated with a Masters of Science in Instructional Technology from Fort Hays State University. This past summer I earned official designation as a National Geographic Certified Educator, Google Certified Educator, Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert/Trainer, and Apple Teacher. I serve on the Polar Educators International Council as an American representative. Recently, my undergraduate alma mater Oklahoma Christian University named me their 2017 Outstanding Alumnus of the Year from the School of Education.
